- Type: Puzzle riddle
- Location: A temple of undead
- Difficulty: Difficult
Background:
The players have stumbled upon an ancient, abandoned temple deep in the forest. As they explore the ruins, they begin to sense a dark presence lurking within. Upon entering the main chamber, they are confronted with a gruesome sight: a throne made of human bones, adorned with the skulls of countless victims.
The Puzzle:
In front of the throne, the players see a pedestal with a strange, skull-shaped keyhole. The only clue to the puzzle’s solution is a riddle etched into the pedestal:
“I am the keeper of secrets, the guardian of the dead. To unlock my secrets, you must first raise the dead. But beware, for to do so invites danger and dread. The key to unlocking me is the bones of the fallen, But the wrong bones will only bring more sorrow and tears.”
The Solution:
To solve the puzzle, the players must raise the undead skeletons scattered throughout the temple and bring them to the pedestal. However, not just any skeleton will do – they must find the specific skeleton that holds the key to the pedestal. This skeleton can be identified by a unique marking on its spine.
Once the players have located the correct skeleton, they must carefully remove the key from its spine and use it to unlock the pedestal. Inside, they will find a hidden passage leading to a treasure trove of ancient artifacts and magical items.
But be warned – disturbing the dead comes with its own dangers. The players must be careful not to anger the spirits of the temple, or they may find themselves facing off against an undead horde.
