D&D Puzzle: The Gemstones of Magic

Background:

Your party has stumbled upon a hidden chamber deep within an ancient temple, filled with a treasure trove of precious gemstones. As you survey the room, you notice that there are seven gemstones laid out on a pedestal in the center of the room, each one a different color and shape. However, you also notice that there is a strange aura emanating from the gemstones, as if they are imbued with some sort of magical energy.

The Puzzle:

As you approach the pedestal, a voice speaks to you from the shadows. “To claim the treasure within this chamber, you must prove your worth by solving this puzzle,” the voice says. “The gemstones you see before you must be placed in the correct order, or you will never be able to leave this room alive.”

You realize that the puzzle is to order the gemstones, but you have no idea how to do so. You examine the gemstones closely, but they do not seem to have any obvious clues or markings on them. You are at a loss as to how to solve the puzzle.

Solution:

The solution to the puzzle is to identify the aura emanating from the gemstones to determine the correct order. Each gemstone is imbued with magic from a different school, and the order in which they must be placed corresponds with how the schools of magic are usually ordered in wizard literature.

  6. Illusion: This school is focused on spells that create false images or deceive the senses.
  7. Necromancy: This school is focused on spells that manipulate the life force of living beings or raise the dead.
  8. Transmutation: This school is focused on spells that alter the properties of objects or change the shape of living beings.

Once you have placed the gemstones in the correct order, the door to the treasure chamber will open, allowing you to leave the chamber with your loot.
