D&D Paladin Puzzle: The Lost Deities

  • Type: Ability puzzle
  • Location: A lost temple
  • Difficulty: Medium

Background:

The players are exploring a ruined temple that was once dedicated to a pantheon of righteous deities that have perished in a previous age. As they make their way through the temple, they come across a series of locked doors, each with a strange symbol etched into the stone above it.

The Puzzle:

As the players try to figure out how to open the doors, they notice that each symbol corresponds to a different holy symbol associated with the deity. The players must figure out which holy symbol goes with which door in order to progress through the temple.

The holy symbols that the players have at their disposal are:

  1. A golden shield with a silver sword crossed over it
  2. A white dove with an olive branch in its beak
  3. A golden sun with rays emanating from it
  4. A silver cross with a halo above it
  5. A pair of golden scales balanced on a pedestal

Solution:

To solve the puzzle, the players must use find the mostly lost knowledge of the deities and their holy symbols to match each symbol to the corresponding door. They may need to consult with the ghost of paladins or do some research to figure out the correct associations. Once they have figured out the correct combinations, they can use holy symbols to unlock the doors and continue on their journey through the temple.

For example, the symbol of the golden shield and silver sword might correspond to the paladin’s oath of protection and defense, while the symbol of the white dove with an olive branch might correspond to the paladin’s oath of peace and reconciliation. By using these symbols to unlock the doors, the players can progress through the temple and honor the deities’ teachings.
