- Type: Door puzzle
- Location: a halfling village
- Difficulty: Easy
Background:
The party has come across a small, hidden halfling village nestled in a secluded valley. As they explore the village, they notice a strange, ornate door at the end of a long, winding path.
The door is sealed shut, and there is a small, circular keyhole on the front. Upon closer inspection, the party realizes that the keyhole is surrounded by 4 intricate symbols and patterns. These symbols are:
- A small, round loaf of bread with a bite taken out of it – This symbol represents nourishment, abundance, and hospitality. It is often associated with halfling culture, as halflings are known for their love of good food and their welcoming nature.
- A pair of dice, with one die showing a “6” and the other showing a “1” – This symbol represents luck and gambling, which are both central to halfling culture. Halflings are known for their love of games of chance, and they often rely on luck to guide them in their decisions.
- A pair of crossed pitchforks – This symbol represents farming, hard work, and the simple pleasures of life. Halflings are known for their strong connection to the land and their fondness for agricultural pursuits.
- A small, intricately woven basket – This symbol represents craftsmanship, creativity, and resourcefulness. Halflings are known for their skilled hands and their ability to make useful and beautiful objects from a wide range of materials.
It seems that the keyhole is actually part of a larger puzzle, and the party must solve it in order to open the door.
The Puzzle:
The party must figure out how to unlock the puzzle door in order to uncover whatever treasure or clue lies behind it. They notice that there are four small symbol etched into the surface of the door, just above the keyhole.
They also see that there is a small, grassy field just in front of the door, with a series of circular targets scattered across it.
The Solution:
The party must throw rocks at the targets in the field. Each target corresponds to one of the symbols. A symbol briefly lights up if a rock is thrown successfully against a target, and the party must determine which symbol goes with which target. They may also need to use their own logic to determine the correct order of symbols. The correct order might be as the symbols appear above the keyhole, or you could add more complexity if you choose.
Once they have successfully unlocked the puzzle door, they may find a valuable treasure inside, or a clue to their next adventure.
