Background:
The ancient dragonborn clan of the Red Scales have long guarded the legendary “Heart of Fire”, a glowing crystal said to contain the essence of their ancestor’s powerful breath weapon. The clan has always believed that the crystal should only be wielded by a true dragonborn hero, one who exemplifies their values of honor, strength, and courage.
For centuries, the Heart of Fire has been kept in the clan’s sacred temple, protected by a series of puzzles and challenges that only the most worthy dragonborn could solve. Will the party be able to face the challenges and be worthy of the treasure?
The Puzzle:
You enter the Dragon’s cave to solve the puzzles.
The first puzzle is a series of riddles inscribed on stone tablets scattered throughout the cave. Each riddle speaks of a different aspect of dragonborn and challenges you to solve it in order to proceed.
Riddle 1
I am a thing of beauty, A sight to behold, I dance and I flicker, But I am never old. I can be warm and comforting, Or I can bring great fear, I can destroy or create, But I am never clear. I am a force to be reckoned with, But I am also very small, What am I?
Answer: Fire
Riddle 2:
I am a virtue that is highly prized, But also difficult to attain, I am the foundation of a noble life, And the cornerstone of a good name. I am a code that guides one’s actions, And a principle that shapes one’s thoughts, I am the measure of a dragonborn’s worth, And the source of their pride and their lot. I am something that cannot be bought, But must be earned through deeds and through time, What am I?
Answer: Honor
Riddle 3:
I am a bond that is deep and true, A commitment that cannot be broken, I am the foundation of friendships, And the key to relationships unspoken. I am a virtue that is highly prized, But also difficult to attain, I am the glue that holds a group together, And the fire that drives it to remain. I am something that cannot be forced, But must be earned through trust and through time, What am I?
Answer: Loyalty
The second puzzle is a physical challenge that requires you to navigate a series of traps and obstacles using dragonborn abilities, such as your breath weapon and wings.
The third puzzle is a test of your strength and courage, as you must face off against a fierce dragon guardian that has been tasked with protecting the Heart of Fire. Pick a dragon that’s a good match for the players’ level.
Solution:
To solve the first puzzle, you must correctly answer all of the riddles by demonstrating your understanding of dragonborn honor.
To solve the second puzzle, you must use your dragonborn abilities and quick thinking to navigate the traps and obstacles. This might involve using a breath weapon to melt through obstacles, or using wings to fly over them.
To solve the third puzzle and retrieve the Heart of Fire, you must defeat the dragon guardian in combat. This will require all of your strength, courage, and skill. Once you have proven yourself worthy, the Heart of Fire will be yours to wield and bring back to the clan.
