D&D Foundry Puzzle: Hammer and Anvil

  • Type: Logic puzzle
  • Location: A foundry
  • Difficulty: Medium

Background:

You and your party have come across a hidden underground foundry deep within a mountain range. This ancient forge is said to be able to craft the finest weapons in all the land, but it is also guarded by a series of complex puzzles that must be solved in order to gain access.

The Puzzle:

As you approach the foundry, you see that the entrance is guarded by a large stone door with 6 circular locks on it. Each lock is marked with a different symbol:

  • A sheath
  • A hammer
  • A file
  • A grinder
  • A quench tank
  • A forge

You realize that these symbols represent the different stages of weapon crafting, and that you must solve the puzzle in order to gain access to the forge.

However, you have no idea how to solve the puzzle, and the door seems to be sealed tight. As you stand there, trying to figure out what to do, you notice a strange glowing hammer above the door. It seems to be reacting to your presence, pulsing with a faint light.

Solution:

The solution to the puzzle is to use the glowing hammer to unlock the locks on the door. The symbols on the locks represent the different stages of weapon crafting, and the glowing stone is the key to solving the puzzle.

You must hold the glowing hammer to the locks in the order a sword is forged in the foundry.

  1. A forge: This symbol represents the process of heating and shaping the metal of the blade.
  2. A hammer: This symbol represents the process of shaping and tempering the blade.
  3. A quench tank: This symbol represents the process of rapidly cooling the blade to strengthen it.
  4. A file: This symbol represents the process of smoothing and refining the edge of the blade.
  5. A grinder: This symbol represents the process of sharpening and honing the edge of the blade.
  6. A sheath: This symbol represents the process of creating a protective covering for the blade.

Once you have unlocked all six locks, the door will open, allowing you to enter the foundry and begin crafting your weapon. This is also where you find the anvil that glows with the same power as the hammer.
